Friday evening, a vibrant crowd attended the annual exhibition preview party at the Orlando Museum of Art to view and celebrate selected works by ten outstanding Florida artists—Bernadette Despujols, Hai Van, Mona Bozorgi, Francesco Lo Castro, Onajide Shabaka, Jason Seife, Carol Prusa, Njeri Kinuthia, Sheila Goloborotko, and Yanira Collado—casting their votes for the People's Choice award, and eagerly awaiting the announcement declaring Miami-based artist Yanira Collado as the winner of this year’s Florida Prize in Contemporary Art.

In addition to the substantial award of 20,000 USD, this phenomenal achievement highlights Collado as a leading figure in the visual arts. The Florida Prize awards were sponsored by Gail and Michael Winn.

“Yanira Collado is a mixed-media artist whose site-specific installation works are both intricate and thought-provoking. Her themes are a meditation on memory, history, and identity. Incorporating found materials, textiles, and objects, Collado continuously shifts and juxtaposes fragmented panels to enhance their richly textured layers. Her work is distinguished by its poly-segmented appearance, meticulous craftsmanship, and conceptual depth, reflecting an enduring interest in cultural narratives and the construction and preservation of personal and collective histories.”
